Forget Bucky, You Can Still Write-In Steve Rogers

This image is as political as this blog will get during the Presidential race (which, incidentally, should give you some idea of my opinion of the across-the-board mediocrity I see in the primaries).

You despicable, undemocratic betrayer of liberty. Not for endorsing Captain America, who I think would make an EXCELLENT president, but for rejecting reality to grasp at self-indulgent and, frankly, childish fantasies.

Additionally, it is reflective of a counter-productive brand of cynicism that HAS BEEN THE MAIN PROBLEM with politics for the past twelve years to label Clinton, Obama, or McCain collectively as "mediocre," or even Huckabee for that matter, as horrifying a candidate as he is. This dismissal of the important distinctions between the candidates is flatly irresponsible. The important thing here is that we have a chance to, for hte first time in eight years, have someone in the white house with a clear and competent understanding of foreign affairs. McCain brings an authority on the subject of torture that could carry us a long way in mending broken relationships with other countries. With Obama and Clinton, they also have a firm grasp on domestic policy, which McCain seems to have no interest in.

I'm not going to analyze the three of them here for you now, but the dismissive tone you advocate is 90% of the reason we're in the mess we're in today: Bush/Gore 2000. Naderites "protest voting" because "Bush and Gore are pretty much the same anyway." Eight years later, we should really have come to terms with how fucking stupid that is. Did you hear me Alex? You're fucking stupid.

sorry, I don't know what came over me.

I suspect that this has something to do with your sister working for John Edwards. John Edwards is not the be-all end-all of anything, and just because he's not in the race does not mean you shouldn't care. Also I agree with Gage -- none of the candidates are medicore. And given the current administration even mediocre would be FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC.
